1 Had an accident, lucked out big time though. on Sat May 23, 2009 7:57 pm

I got in an accident on the way to pick Richard up from school, I messed up the front end of the my car but was unhurt (so far as I know anyway), both of my airbags deployed, but the accident did not include any other cars. It was just rainy roads, and in my opinion, maybe a patch of oily slick on the road. I was on Bryan Dairy Road, going around the curves to get around to the light to turn left onto Starkey to get to the school. Apparently when I hit one of the curvy patches, I went into a spin, hit the wall headed toward the lake and somehow ended up into the wrong side of the road going into oncoming traffic…. Except, luckily for me there was no oncoming traffic. I immediately veered back across the median the right side of the road and continued on to pick Richard up as if nothing had ever happened. I was on autopilot... ("go get Richard, go get Richard... can't be late. etc.) It did not occur to me how badly what had happened until I got home, and that’s when I broke down and became a mess. My car still operates, the gauges still all show up in a normal status.... it probably needs an alignment and a new bumper and headlight, but other than that, it seems OK. My parents think that there is worse damage to my car than what I think there is, but.... I guess we'll decide that later when I'm in a better frame of mind to decide.

I originally wrote this hours earlier.... Around 8 or so, my neck and head went into attack mode on me, I ended up with one of the worst migraines of my life. My back hurts too.... but since it always hurts, it's hard to tell if that's because of the accident or just my usual hurt. Pretty much, I stopped any and all activity and became a blubbering mass of goo on the couch as I attempted to apply the tens unit to my neck. At 10 or so, my stepmom came up to help me through it, she gets them often too, so she's good about knowing how to handle them... plus well, she's just a wonderful mother. Don't get me wrong.... I've had migraines since I was a teenager However, this was either the worst or the second worst I've ever had in my life. We tried ice, cool wet cloths, a tens unit on my neck, a heating pad, pretty much everything we had in our arsenal. At that point, I gave up and just wanted to pass out and forget the pain.

So by 2 AM, I'd taken 20 Mg my of Ambien (I took one (around midnight), and when that one didn't do the trick, took another an hour later(one-ish)) and 10 Mg of my Valium (an hour before the we tried the Ambien - so like 10:30 or 11 or so - to try and simply calm my muscles down first) and make the pain go away..... I'm pretty sure I fell asleep at some point after that... but it had to be closer to 3. Here it is, 6 and I'm back awake, despite all of the medication I had. (For those of you who don't know... 1 ambien will usually knock you out for 7 or 8 hours alone. Make it two... well, who knows, I guess it depends on the person. Not to mention the valium. I thought -hoping, really - I'd be out for a while.) The pain is not anywhere near as intenese, but it is for sure still there so I think I will go lay back down, if nothing else than to just be comfortable.

I can't get the smell of the airbags out of my nose, nor the thought of the accident replaying in my head as if it were on repeat over and over and over. If I was 10 minutes later when it happened, Richard would have been in the car and things could have been a lot worse. I've had 2 other "Accidents, I have never been involved with another car and have never involved my insurance. All of my accidents were on slick, wet roads. One, the guy stopped suddenly to turn I guess, no turn signal, and I had to slam on my brakes and swerve to miss him. This was an older car which had poor traction and drivability in the rain) to miss him, this sent my car hydroplaning into a deep ditch (I was young here, maybe 20 or 21 so my choice maybe not have been the brightest decision, but the only one I could come up with at the time other than hitting the truck.) The other, a large truck towing a long boat pulled out in front of us to turn into the VA park on Tyrone over Labor day weekend... at night. I swerved and hit the brakes (Again, I was a very young and inexperienced driver - 18 I think, but if I didn't I would have hit his boat for sure.) and it sent us into multiple fast spins until the median (no bigger than the one I easily ran over -twice - today) stopped us from going into oncoming traffic. This time I was lucky we didn't jump the median.... there was a lot of oncoming traffic. We would have been plowed over. Also out of pure luck, there was no one on our side of the road so when I went into spins, no one else was involved. Neither time, neither vehicle stopped to make sure I/we were alright. They kept going.

Out of all of these experiences, today's accident has left me really shaken. I'm terrified, I don't want to even be around cars right now. Every time Richard sees me, all he wants to do is talk about the accident, how it happened and why there was "smoke" in the car (from the airbags), why my car needs a new headlight, etc. So I'm being avoidant right now, I'm sure you understand.

***HUGS*** first, please call Chiromed today and get an appointment, I went there after my accident, they are GOOD! Even helping with the trauma part of the wreck, massages, etc. Screw the car..really, you'll get the headlight fixed. Did you call your insurance? If not, give them a ring and let them know what happened. This is a "no fault" state, so they will also pay for chiromed, my accident was my fault. Hopefully you are back to sleep hun..but if not... get on the phone, or I will help you with the phone calls if you want. Explain to chiromed that you are fearful of the phone, and they will call for you. Been there, done that. I'm so sorry!!!!!!! IF you need ANYTHING, please call me, or write. it will be okay, and what you are feeling is pretty normal, other than the backpain, and neck pain haven't kicked in yet.. Kim

Hey Kelley, it's 1am LOL... I just wanted to see how you are doing.. hopefully you are sleeping good. TTYL, Kim

Heh... I'm still awake. I've been dozing off and on for most of the day. Right now, I'm playing Grand Theft Auto IV. lol... I'm doing OK, meds and ice are helping a little, definitely taking the edge off anyway. I'm doing better anyway. I'm at least less unstable on my feet and less nauseous, which is good for sure. Still not sure if I'll make an appearance tomorrow or not, but we'll see how I'm doing when the time comes. I'd really like to, but don't want to push things. Thanks a ton for your concern, it means a lot. Very Happy

Don't push yourself, you don't want to get worse!!!! So when do you start therapy? I should be asleep, I took Seroquel, but I'm too anxious, not in a bad way though.. Ya, I don't like alot of people, not that I 'm not friendly, I just have a hard time with relating and making friends... but when I do, I really care about them tongue Ya, we have GTA too... I can't comprehend it.. I can do racing games, and well games like tetris, or regular nintendo.. My brain doesn't work with role playing games, although at least with Grand theft, you have an arrow =D Glad you are feeling better for the moment. Keep resting, and take care of yourself, that's a pretty bad wreck, you are lucky!!

Followed up with my primary today... she agrees with the ER's conclusions of a sprained neck and concussion, but is more concerned with the extra back pain (more than usual, that is) and ordered (yet another - not that the ER did one, but I've had several to try and figure out what's wrong with my back) back MRI. Also, she's getting me a massage for my back and neck. (Hooray!!) I go for that in about an hour and a half. The MRI isn't until 9 PM, if you can believe it.

But, since I mentioned the word "Car" at any of the doctor's offices (i.e. ER, dr. office, MRI, etc.... how can you not, though?), all of this has to be claimed under car insurance rather than medical. So, I spent a while on the phone discussing the details of the accident over and over.

I also drove my car over to our trusted mechanic to have him take a look at it to see if it is drivable or if it needs serious work (as apparently after we paid the car off, we took Collision off the insurance. Oops.) Luckily, at first glance, he seems to think most, if not all of the damage is purely cosmetic, which is fine by me. I'll drive a messed up looking car if it means I don't have to pay thousands of dollars to get it fixed and drivable, as money's one thing I don't have at the moment. *crosses fingers* Guess we'll find out by tomorrow.

Same with my back, I guess. I've still been extremely stiff, especially in my neck, shoulders and upper back which has caused constant headaches.... or is that the concussion? Eh, whatever. Regardless, it's a hell of a lot better than it was, but it still sucks. I bet that the massage will help a lot though.

So how did today go?

Massage went pretty good, he did kind of like accupressure type therapy along with the massage. When he got to my neck, he said I had a lot of swelling and fluid behind my ears and down my neck a little that was actually pressing on my corotid arteries and what not that supply blood to my brain, which is what could be causing a lot of my headaches, so he did a lot of massaging there and more accupressure to take the pressure off of that area. My neck, head and back still hurt, but a definitely less. I will repeat the massaging and whatnot every week for a while to help correct things.

Just got back from the MRI, obviously won't know the results for a bit on that.

Haven't heard from the mechanic yet either, but he did say that he probably wouldn't get a chance to look at it until tomorrow.... so eh, whatever.

Acupressure, thats kindof cool though.. glad you feel a little better! When I had my accident, the therapy afterwards was the best part. Especially the massages!! I felt awesome, and saw the same lady for a year after I was released, haven't seen a chiro since, but I'd be ALMOST willing to drive to the other coast where she relocated if I could just remember her name!! She did ahhh, I can think of it, but it's like pulling your head off, oh traction, then she would align everything right. I felt so good after that, even though it was kindof freaky. I hope the MRI comes out okay. I'll talk to ya later, tomorrow is a BUSY flipping day, starting with the developental ped who hopefully won't say when we get there that they dont take Kailey's insurance again, then occupational therapy, then drive home from all childrens, chill for a few, then off to the library LOL.

Got my car back today. No real damage other than the messed up bumper. Not gonna bother to fix it. I'm cool as long as my car is drivable. Too bad... Mustang and all though. Oh well.

Chris told me this weekend he's helping you guys move, so have him take a look at your car.. He's VERY good with car cosmetics, and well, cars in general. He's used to participate in car shows etc.. He may be able to help.. or else, there's always the previous idea, BUMPERSTICKERS!! It's a good thing it's just cosmetic though =D

Heh... I'll have to host an image. Bumperstickers are not an option. lol. But yeah, Colin told me that he and Chris were talking about moving this weekend and Chris offered to help. That's really cool of him. I think Sunday is the big day that we are planning on moving the big stuff with the truck and all, so yee haw.

ok, so yeah, no bumper stickers...the dent on the passenger side may be an easy fix for chris, then the headlight. Some major buffering of the front bumper, and then some touch up paint... oh and a new Lion heart plate. The dent in the front o the car, passanger side, could maybe be pulled. Ahh.. battle wound scars, poor car. Glad it wasn't worse, but it looks like it was quite a wreck.

actually Chris and Collin should go down to majic or to Koefers and pull a new front bumper..then retouch the paint =D Ok, done giving opinions about the car

I meant to add that this picture was taken after the mechanic looked at it and moved the bumper back into a more normal place. You should have seen it before... lol.
