I hope nobody let anyone boss them around! it's called indepenece day for a REASON, you know.

so who enjoyed firecrackers and fireworks? besides me, and Kim and Kelley, who have children to take to see and enjoy them with?

I still want to hear from you two! Kim and Kelly. yeah. tell me how it went.

3 Re: Happy Independence Day Everyone! on Sun Jul 05, 2009 3:32 pm

Heh.... yeah, you're asking moms of children who each have sensory issues that include sound sensitivity on how they enjoyed fireworks. lol..... *insert sarcasm here* Richard has been slowly warming up to them as the years pass, but he keeps his hands firmly planted over his ears, even when just the sparklers are out just because of the neighbor's fireworks going off. We've been going to my parentsa house the past few years and they do a mish-mash of stuff that includes noise makers, he usually sat just inside and watched through the glass door. This year, we decided to go low key and got a handful of non-noisy stuff, he is a visual stimuli seeker, so he loves to see the pretty lights and sparkles and stuff, just not the noise that comes with it. So it's kind of a love/hate relationship. Actually going to a professional showing of fireworks I think would send him over the edge... lol. Maybe when he gets older and has a little more OT under his belt. Thanks for asking though!! How was your fourth? Did you do anything special?

haha. true, most autistics despise fireworks and the loud noises. i forgot about that. i always liked them. but really, i wasn't inquiring about mothers and their children. just adults.
so it sounds like your was somewhat fun Smile
mine was great. absolutely wonderful. every 2-3 minutes they would launch 3-4 fireworks over the ohio river. then, at the end, for the finale, they launched about 50 different fireworks almost at the same time. it would've been very unpleasant for your son. it was about as loud as a nascar race, and we weren't even that close. it was probably the best finale i've seen.
and we just did the whole firecrackers-poppers-sparklers routine that most people do. nothing out of the O Smile

5 Re: Happy Independence Day Everyone! on Mon Jul 06, 2009 12:30 am

it's the same with him and parades. He loves to go to them to see the cars and fire trucks, but hates it when the bands go by or when the fire trucks and police cars let off their sirens close by. It's funny. We have to take him every year, he absolutely loves going.... but hates it at the same time. Gotta love it.

Your fourth sounds wonderful. I'd have loved to see the fireworks over the river, sounds beautiful. What general area do you live in? We're going to be up in Sandusky for Cedar Point madness in early August, maybe we could get together for a little meet up, depending on where you live?

haha. that sounds humorous. love/hate. i once heard someone say 'yeah we have a love-hate relationship- she loves me and i hate her'. i thought that was pretty funny. i enjoy parades and all kinds of loud noises, just for the noise. i love noise. loud noise, quiet noise, beautiful noise, static-y noise, all of it. i'm very fond of sound. but it can bother me when i'm around people i don't know...

oh, that would be great! i live in meigs county ohio, Racine. 605 6th street. i'd LOVE for you to frop in. you're very welcome to, although i don't know when you will be, if you will be. i've been having a hard time here recently. my great grandfather just died, we've been all up and down ohio, i've had some concerning issues with friends... it's been hell. but it would cheer me up to see a friend. so your free to drop in any time.
my family and i went to cedar point just a few weeks ago. it was really fun. i'm not sure if you want me reccommendations for the best rides, cause you really may not want to go on one that pulls you to pieces and puts you back together the wrong way, so... but i enjoyed going. i hope you do too!

7 Re: Happy Independence Day Everyone! on Mon Jul 06, 2009 11:27 pm

Oh, no worries. I'm a Cedar Point expert. I'm a South Bend/Elkhart area Native from my childhood and a lot of my family still lives up there, so anytime we visit, we try to make the effort to swing on by the Point. This will be my son's first trip though, he seems excited. I've showed him their website and all their rides plus I have like a 15 year old video I picked up many years ago that shows a lot of stuff too (the newest ride on it is the Raptor... lol). He's totally stoked. And at 4 feet tall, he should be able to get on many of the rides... provided he's willing. lol... Wink

I will google your address in relation to our driving route, my (real) mother and son will be with me, but I'm sure we'd love to meet you maybe for a meal out or even just to hang somewhere that is your favorite spot. Sorry you've had such a rough time of it lately, we'd love to brighten up your life, if even for a moment. Smile

i rode the raptor! that one was the BEST! i LOVED it! if you haven't rode that one, you should. it's REALLY fun!
i hope you all have as much fun as i did. when i was there i won a guitar. which was really sweet considering i play guitar.

ok. yeah, a friend visiting would be really good. there's so many things though... i may or may not be home.. i probably will if you dont come this saturday. i kindof need to stay at home. i have someone else coming over from a long way too, or at least as far as i know i am. he's one of the reasons i've been having such a hard time, cause i've been anxious and excited and worried. i can't really talk about it, but it has to do with my state right now. but anyway, you're welcome to visit. and in case you don't know, and kim hasn't told you, i'm not 18. think jr. high. thought you may want to be informed. that way you don't get suprised like kim did. so.. you can still visit Smile

9 Re: Happy Independence Day Everyone! on Tue Jul 07, 2009 2:15 am

man of a million names

hey, maybe you can get kim to go with you! i'd like to meet you both. could you look into that?

10 Re: Happy Independence Day Everyone! on Tue Jul 07, 2009 8:06 am

That would be something you'd have to talk to Kim about. My mom is financing this trip, and I know she'd not finance another person or family to come with us, especially when she does not know them, but if I can get a more precise date of when we'll be in your area maybe she can make the trip. But again I say, entirely that's up to her and her finances. It would be cool though.

11 Re: Happy Independence Day Everyone! on Tue Jul 07, 2009 10:50 pm

man of a million names

yeah, it would. it'd be wicked sweet to see, not one, but two of my favorite people. but if SHE'D GET ONLINE, then i'd ask her. but it seems she hasn't been on here i a while, and god knows she doesn't do anything on myspace haha.

12 Re: Happy Independence Day Everyone! on Tue Jul 07, 2009 11:55 pm

lol... I know she's been busy. try emailing her directly. her email addy is on here somewhere....

13 Re: Happy Independence Day Everyone! on Wed Jul 08, 2009 3:37 am

i'll go searching for it. i'll tell you when i'm back from my long, perilous, and adventurous voyage Smile
