Radical New Autism Theory:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-05-11/a-radical-new-autism-theory/
(This article especially fascinated me personally, because it is how I am. I can even remember in the past, noticing that I not only knew I knew how someone felt, but that I would notice myself actually SOUNDING like them when I talked! This was in a situation where I was living in a group environment. I would talk, and actually realize that I sounded just like them. It was strange, but that was years before I knew I had AS. I have only known about having AS in the past year and I am in my late 40's).

Aspergers & Cortisol:

(Another aspect of cortisol that is interesting to read about, is Cushings Syndrome).

I remember just reading this.. I think on another great forum, and I agree 100% with the first article!! We DO FEEL EMPATHY!!!! I do tend to overanalyze how someone else must or problably feels, and well hard to explain, but it's like torture to go through!!!!!!!!! The second article is very interesting as well!! Thanks for posting this, Kim

The first article is very cool Cool however this is not a new concept No ; this is the typical situation and response of most with AS; it is the basis for not being able to pick up the so called "social cues" so often referred to in articles, books study , etc. about AS. Our neuropathways have not bonded correctly or matured or developed to the point of being able to take in information, process the information, figure out what to do with the information, and then follow through. 2 Articles of Interest Re: Aspergers 328999 Here we have a better understanding of being overloaded, for meltdowns, for lacking the social cues, etc. As Kim stated "We DO FEEL EMPATHY!!!!" 2 Articles of Interest Re: Aspergers 61461 Now once we know this we can begin to set goals to deal with it. 2 Articles of Interest Re: Aspergers 34687 2 Articles of Interest Re: Aspergers 34687 Dr. Ron

A beautiful article!

Schwarz notes that nonautistic people, too, “are rather lousy at understanding the inner state of minds too different from their own—but the nonautistic majority gets a free pass because if they assume that the other person's mind works like their own, they have a much better chance of being right.” Exactly, hehehe geek

I like both articles, the first I guess sort of applies to me, but I tend to block out emotions mainly because I don't like to show them and also had a very bad first marriage where I was over empathetic or whatever and it ended badly. (he was a Rx drug addict) And I guess because of both AS and the first relationship, now I tend to keep my emotions close to me... but maybe that's normal. Who knows. I guess as a child, I was known to be extremely empathetic and emotional, as is my autistic child, but now I'm the extreme opposite.

As for the second article, I was hoping to find something on the females and cortisol, as I've had multiple kidney infections throughout my life... although when they tested my cortisol levels, they were fine. But, it was still interesting, nonetheless to hear there could be a connection. Thank you for both articles! Smile

Hey Kelly.. maybe off topic, but have your doctor check your blood, urine, for EOSINOPHILS. If you get another endoscopy done, or colonoscopy done, make sure and tell them to check for EOSINOPHILS. They are nasty little buggers and from what research I've done, they seem to like those on the spectrum. That is what Kailey was newly dx with. It can cause A LOT of symptoms. Not just GI. You can have EOS anywhere.... if that is the case, there are treatments.
