I don't know if I should still call FDLRS and have Kailey evaled.. or just let it go, because she is a lot more social now, and is doing alot better in terms of meltdowns. I don't know what is "normal" or "typical" for her age. I am at a loss of what to do about school. I "could" just enroll her in K4 next year and see what happens, if they have problems with Kailey, than we can decide whether she will need an IEP? Its so hard to tell because she has really never been away from me completely. In my own personal opinion, I think Kailey would do better in a smaller class. Suggestions? I know I have some time.. but I don't want to be late on anything, like testing. She's going to see a new developmental ped, I'm waiting on a call back..so maybe I just wait until then. I haven't even taken Kailey for her 3 year old checkup yet, her birthday was May 24th.. I just don't want to put her through it, she freaks out. ugghh.. Maybe I just answered my own question lol!

I can't say it enough.... have her evaluated through FDLRS!!!! What's the worse they can say?? No, she's not qualified? Seriously girl.... do it. She has delays. She deserves the special attention. If she doesn't have the IEP and delay, she will not get into Nancy's class. And you don't really have time, FDLRS loves to delay... you have to keep on their umm... tush... and as far as developmental ped's go, you can be on waiting lists as long as 3 or 4 months to get in there. CALL NOW TO FDLRS!! 99% of all of Richard's eval's before school were done pretty much without his participation, but more with a question an answer session because he refused to interact. In fact, I think Colin had to remove him from the room on a few occasions in some of them. They will work with you, I promise. But do get her in for her 3 yr. checkup, they (the schools anyway) will want current doc. info for registration.

You are right..It can't hurt.. about the 3 yr checkup, it would be so much easier if doctors would SEDATE. She's going to scream, and freak out the entire time..why make her go through it. Bribery will help though LOL

Richard was the same way with the doc's appt's.... pretty much until he turned 5, now magically he's fine with it and goes along just nicely. I have no clue what changed... But we had to physically restrain him for each and every appt. he had up until his very last one. And he even got 2 shots. I hated taking him to the doc. too... Refused to take him in fact, unless it was absolutely necessary because like you... I always said, why make him go through it. But if you want her in school, and I think it would help her, then it's a necessary evil. And yes, bribery is always good. We always took Richard out for ice cream afterwards had a special treat with us or went and got him a new car.

I called them today, and will be recieving paperwork soon...she did say that I might want to call back a few times to ask how it's coming.. I guess they are notorious for being slackers. The lady I spoke with said that Sensory Integration d/o is actually being recognized.. hmmm..early steps told me that they do not recognize sensory issues. I guess I'll find out =D oh, and go the 3yr scheduled.. I SOOOOOO do not want to do this.. but I have her seeing a female so "maybe" it will go better, that is, until she attempts to touch Kailey with a forign object!!! They are also doing a hearing screening, I don't even want to know what that entails.

They really are good at just letting things go, and this close to school, you do want to stay on top of them. Of course, there's nothing saying that she can't start a little late. The paperwork, as I recall, is a bit extensive... and then they'll want to meet with you like 2 or 3 times (or at least they're supposed to).

Good luck with Kailey's appt. I'm sure she'll do OK, regardless. Richard's doctor knew him well enough that they didn't even bother with the hearing and eye tests until this year when he was finally being compliant. Basically what the hearing test was was that they put these headphones on and in different ears, the programmer will make it say something at a different sound level/frequency I guess and the child has to point to a picture on a sheet of what it was they heard the thing say. The lady made sure Richard knew and could point to the objects she was going to test him on before she did it first, so it's not like anything was a surprise. I bet if Kailey is kicking up a fuss, they won't make her do it and if they try, they are bastards and you should tell them so.

My daughter Lauren used to hate doctors appts. She would never let the doctor touch her. The doctor tried so hard to be nice and patient. We have a toy doctors kit. Before I took her to the appt I would show her what the doctor was going to do - like listening to her heart and looking in her ears. We also brought the doctor kit with us to the appt and Lauren pretended to listen to the doctor's heart and then let the doctor listen to hers - it was a good trade off and the doctor didn't mind because it made her job a lot easier. I have found that some of my kids don't like sitting on the doctor table because of the noise the paper makes. So I brought crayons and instead of it being a scary noisy seat, it became a huge coloring paper. We have also read books about doctors and dentist appts they seem to help take some of the anxiety away. I hope these ideas help a little, but if not I agree with the mom above - bribery works wonders!
